DID YOU KNOW

* You should be aware that the potting mix you buy your plant in from some nurseries may not be suitable for that plant in your environment. That is because the plant may have been in a closed glasshouse environment where all weather conditions are strictly controlled. Put it in your conditions and the mixes suitability can be suspect !!

* Papua New Guinea holds an incredible array of plants and animals. An amazing country with over 800 languages and tribal groups who still live off the land. Beautiful friendly people will greet you wherever you go with some city exceptions ....that are over publicised. It will probably never change and is one of the few places on the planet where you will find original relatively untouched cultures of people living a traditional lifestyle. If you learn pidgin which is easy you will be able to communicate with these people. Will we discover the rare plants of New Guinea this year. Hope so !!

* Tropical deciduous plants like Calatheas, Alocasias, Deciduous Gingers, Amorphophallus etc often do not do their winter dieback till late June but do not come back until it gets really warm....which could easily be November depending on prevailing air temperatures at the time.

*Winter is a good time to obtain the corms/rhizomes (bulbs) lying dormant in the pot.
Why is this so ? Its because the nursery people usually wait till spring to divide these rhizomes and if you get them in winter you will get bigger or mutiple rhizomes or corms or bulbs.

TRUE LIES

Ted from Woombye near Nambour was in Brisbane and noticed a couple of city workers working along the city footpaths. Ted was quite impressed with their hard work, but he couldn't understand what they were doing.
Finally, he approached the workers and asked, "I appreciate how hard you're both working, but what the heck are you doing? It seems that one of you digs a hole, and then the other fella immediately fills it back up again.
One of the workers explained, "The third chap who plants the trees is off sick today."

....Meditation is Easy & You Don’t Need to be a Monk to do It.......
HOW TO MEDITATE....Did you know that the worlds top achievers & performers use one form of meditation or another ? A good reason to meditate is that when you go into the lower brainwave levels of alpha & theta...you actually go into a higher learning state. You can relax your mind by slowing it down and request it to do certain things under certain conditions !! Your subconcious will  kick in for you to react in the way you want at the right time when the situation arises. Heres one way to go into a meditative state:
1. Sit up with your back straight in a quiet place. Lift your eyes up once as if going into a `spelling bee’ & close your eyes.Take a deep breath and let it out slowly on a slow count.... 7 to 1.
2. Slow your breathing this way by repeating  another 4 times.
3. Relax your body focussing on every body part starting from your toes up to your head.
4. Visualise the colours of the rainbow from red to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple to violet. If you cant see the colours just imagine something that colour. As you get to violet imagine landing in a beautiful place in nature that you know. Then relax here as long as you wish.
Do this every day for about half an hour....its relaxing, peaceful & rewarding....practise it and its easy... The next step ...explained next time is what to do and say to yourself when meditating..
Next time ....the type of things you can achieve by making use of meditation

the WA & NT & Tas Quarantine Protocols in one batch & minimise the cost to you.

We need your order by the AM Friday before these dates as we go through an

intricate Quarantine Inspection process 6.00am Tuesday & need to do this in

Mrytle Rust Alert now affects some plants into the NT & SA, Tas & Vic. as well as WA.....which means we cannot sent plants from Family Myrtacea to these states.

Restrictions will soon be lifted in Victoria as Myrtle Rust has been found in

60 locations.

...WA & SA, Tas & NT Customers....
There is an alert for Myrtle Rust in WA & NT the following potential host genus’ are not allowed entry for probably an extended period:
Austromyrtus, Callistemon, Eugenia, Feijoa, Kunzea, Leptospermum, Melaleuca,Myrciaria, Psidium, Syzygium, Xanthostemon, Rhodomyrtus.
These are the plants that may appear in our catalogue & is not the complete list. The complete list includes all the Family Myrtaceae. It was hoped this would be a short term measure.....but the authorities are in no rush to take action that would lead to lift the restriction.

There are other plants that are not permitted into WA for various reasons. We get all our plants approved by the State Dept of Agricultures before sending.

Here are a few more for your information.

Euphorbia species, Citrus species, Microcitrus species, Hibiscus species, Azalea species, Feijoa species, Vaccinium species Blueberry, Rhododendron, Vireya.
