Grumichama is famous the world over as
a fruit producing ornamental rainforest tree.Its flowers
develop into a thin skinned cherry sized dark red fruit
which ripens in one month to a glossy black - only 1-2
seeds. Excellent eating with a sweet flesh suitable for
eating fresh, making jam or jelly and wine.
The tree is small and
highly ornamental with its dense dark green leathery oval
foliage and bronze new growth and masses of small pure
white flowers..This one is a frost hardy plant from
Southern Brazil and will grow in all mild climates.

ANTHOUSE PLANT
(30cm**AbcD) Myrmecodia becarii
The Anthouse Plant is a rare epiphyte..a weird wonder of
nature. This one is from
Cape York & nearby Cairns lowland forest
and mangroves.It has small succulent
leaves growing on a hardened spiky ball
(hypocotyl) which develops from its stem.
Part of the ball is dedicated to housing
ants which benefit the Ant Plant with nutrients
from its leftovers.
Small white flowers emerge from the small hollows in the
ball and then you get white,
red, pink or orange fruit.
Keep very dry in winter.Requires porous mix. Part shade.
This plant has been
declared vulnerable by the Australian
Government. These are strong plants in
50mm pots.

..Most Unusual Flowering Plant Of
All.........
GIANT BAT PLANT
(1mAD)
Tacca integrifolia
is probably the most unusual flo wering
plant of all !! Its total weird flower arrangement is
about one metre from top to bottom, on a spike, also one
metre long. Its top bracts consist of two spectacular
dorsals usually pure white and each one about 200mm wide.
The true flower in the centre is purple and then there are
huge whiskers which hang about 600mm below. Spectacular is
not the word for this one !! Occasionally there is a
strange variation and the bracts are purple and very
occasionally the whiskers can be white. The Giant Bat
Plant has broad glossy leaves 350mm across and 750mm long.
It grows and flowers beautifully in a pot or in the
garden.
A native of Malaysia this one likes it warm, but will
grow outside in a protected shaded position, north of
Coffs Harbour NSW. Elsewhere in winter it can be grown in
a heated situation. Night temperature should not be below
Zero°C...

BLACK BAT PLANT (50cmAbcD)
Tacca
chantrieri produces
the most unusual and striking flowers. The BlackBat Plant flower is black with long sinister tentacles
hanging downwards. Its leaves are broad and about 30cm long. They are quite hardy
once grown up but need to be nurtured over their first winter in cooler climates than
tropical. This one is a native of Tropical Thailand and Burma.
Give
your Bat Plant a real well drained potting mix with good
moisture in the summer but keep just moist in the winter.
They do not like the cold frosty weather outside so you
will need a warm spot, under shelter or inside. Keep it
under light to medium
shade.

Hanging Pitcher Plant
Nepenthes `ventrata'
This is an unusual cross between Nepenthes alata x
ventricosa. A
spectacular carnivorous pitcher plant. Its hooded insect
trapping red tinged 15cm pitchers hang over the side of a pot or hanging
basket.
It grows like a vine. Pot into an open well drained potting
mix. The plant gets its nutrients from the insects it eats.
Nepenthes are elaborate plants that can be grown successfully
indoors or outdoors without using a greenhouse. Nepenthes
are extremely versatile and adaptable to many different
growing conditions.
Need constant moisture and drainage but do not like sitting
in water... 50-80% shade or morning sun.

JADE
VINE
(VAbD)
Strongylodon macrobotrys. It's colour is unique in
the entire plant world - it's flowers are superb and it can be grown
in warm areas, outside the tropics.
There are few greater rewards than the Jade Vine in full Bloom (Macaboy).
(It's flowers are a soft Jade blue-green and appear in summer for
many months in the long hanging racemes of amazing sickle-shaped pea
blossoms.
This is a strong stemmed, woody, twining creeper with dense glossy
dark green leaves. From the Phillipines and outside the tropics, you
will need a sunny, warm, well drained position, protected from cold
winds. Morning sun to full sun.

The flowers on
this cactus like
plant are 26- 40cm
across !!
They are fleshy
and shaped as 5-
pointed stars with
maroon colouring.
The stems are 4 sided thornless succulent structures
whichwill form an interesting clump.
Can withstand extreme heat. need full sun and moderate
water in the growing season. They need a well-drained
