Titan Lily - Amorphophallus titanum

Titan Lily - Amorphophallus titanum

In August we went to Sumatra in Indonesia in search of the fabulous Titan Lily. We hoped to achieve 4 goals.

1. To find a plant in flower & to get photos & video for our customers.

2. To secure seed to bring home to Nambour, Queensland, Australia to supply to our customers & grow our own seedlings for sale.

3. To secure a reliable seed supplier so we could buy in small lots & so keep the seed coming in fresh.

4. To bring back tubers of older plants which would have to go into quarantine as you cannot bring the tubers or plants into Australia without going into quarantine. They would be remaining in quarantine for 5 months....so this is an expensive process costing at least $30 per plant !

The process is not easy & there is always the chance you will come back completely empty handed as has happened previously!!   You need luck and careful planning as you cannot be hanging around where you think you will have success forever.

I am pleased to say all our goals were achieved. The process cost over AUD$20,000 & so I hate to think what the price of each plant or seed we sell should really be to cover our costs !! You will also be pleased to know that our collectors in Indonesia receive a very good price for every seed or tuber we purchase from them !!

FRESH SEED FOR SALE NOW - Amorphophallus titanum<<<

While many websites have this plant listed you will find this would be one of the few where you can actually buy seed. Just read below & follow the link to our shopping cart on our website at www.paraplants .com.

We will send seed overseas but you will have to check with your countries requirements for the entry of seed. You must check this yourself as every country has different requirements. If you are in the northern hemisphere you will need to get the seed when the weather is warming up as you need 30oC days for it to germinate.

PLANTS FOR SALE - Amorphophallus titanum

We have plants available now at the very reasonable price of $45 each.

You will need to phone an order as numbers do not yet permit putting it in our shopping cart....phone 07 5441 5921

TITAN LILY -  SEED<<Amorphophallus titanum
B
iggest flower on the planet !!
The flower arises from an  underground  tuber

which can  grow to 90kg !! It takes several

years to get to flowering size.
The flower gets to 3m tall  & 1.5m wide !!
The plant itself comes up & dies down each

year & its thick green patterned stem can

be 20cm through and usually 3-6metres

tall...it unfurls to a single leaf.

A very ununusual sight.
Its habitat is at 700m in Sumatra Indonesia & although not far from the Equator the temperatures do not  usually exceed 30oC !!  Eventhough there is not a cold  season in this area the plant dies down back to the tuber each year when it feels like it.. for about 4 months. The dormant period for it here is winter & this means the plant can be grown here. The true flower is inside the green spathe with amazing male & female flower parts. They are pollinated by flies attracted by the smell of dead meat...the smell was about as strong as a dead mouse & thats all !! We have a fresh source of  seeds.
...Priced at  $15.90 each  seed.... Minimum of 3 Seeds...

                  or 5 Seeds for $69.00

We guarantee that the seeds are fresh & viable& easily germinated but due to all  the variables in treatment do not guarantee that you will successfully germinate them. Germination Notes are provided.

ParaPlants packing

I was amazed to find that a neighbour had received my notice from the "mailman" that notified of my delivery from ParaPlants, and I didn't find out about the error for a few days. After rushing up to the mail centre to rescue my package, i found all plants as happy as the day is long - all in good nick - and still quite moist after their week or so being "lost". Great stuff, guys. They are all in the ground now, and i swear they have even grown a little. Thanks a lot!  Alison.
