OCTOBER 2012 EDITION
Well I turn 14 this year and I have decided to retire from my column as I am too busy making moneyfrom my systems which I have being giving to you for all those years. I have decided to bulk up my retirement package. I am going to repeat last months system as my retirement present for you. Here is the method to select winners on the greyhounds & trots. Not sure about the gallopers yet.
1. The betting pool for the win must be at least $5000. At the dogs this is usually about 1 minute before start, trots 2 minutes, gallops 10+minutes.
2. Look at the prices being paid for a place so llong as the total win pool exceeds $5000.
3. You can look at any one of the 3 big totalisatorsor all three...Tatts, Super & NSW
4 Select any contender that is paying $1.40 for the place or less provided that its win price is $3.50 or more.
5. Back your Selection to win.
6. If there are 2 selections...take the quinella.
7. Take your profit or loss when you have won or lost 3 times your stake.....and stop.
8. Increase your stake slightly every time you have 2 consecutive winning days. Never go back. ... Farewell from Syd the Punting Dog

Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I gave you the good oil about the fear of losing but also about the fear of winning !
IIts all about self esteem & the ability to release fear.
Now the `Silky Psychology’ is out of the way its up to you to find out more and apply it if you wish.
Here is a method to select winners on the greyhounds & trots. Not sure about the gallopers yet.

JULY 2012 ISSUE
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I gave you a method to try. This time I am here to tell you that just as life goes in up and down cycles....so does your punting!! The only difference is you can measure your punting cycles with `cash in’ and `cash out’...and from bet to bet. This means 3 things.
1. You must be psychologically equipped to handle both the ups and the downs.
2. You must have a financial strategy to handle it.
3. You must be prepared to pull out when your daily target has been reached taking advantage of your `up cycle’ before the `down cycle’ kicks in.
These are my notes on equipping yourself psychologically.....the Silky Terriors have known these things for years !!
A. If you have a fear of losing...you will always lose. You should learn how to release that fear
while working within your financial strategy !!
B. If you have a fear of winning... because you do not believe you deserve it... because you have low self worth (esteem) you should learn how to release that fear or you will never win. And `self worth’ has nothing to do with `ego’ which is only a manifestation of low self esteem.

Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I told you an inspiring story this time I am going to give you a method that I have not fully tested yet but shows promise. I want you to remember that one or two astute bets in a day is the way to build a large bank. One juicy bone in the kennel is all you need....do it consistently and you can be a big winner. Lets talk in units...one unit is what suits your betting....it might be one dollar , two dollars or ten thousand dollars.
These are my rules for harness, dogs or gallops..
1 Set a winning target of 5 units...when you reach that stop investing for that period. You might start again in 3 hours or the next day.
2. Set a losing target of 6 units then stop & wait for the next betting period.
3. Consider only those runners paying less than $11.00.
4. Only in of fields 12 or less for the gallops, 10 or less for the trots & 8 or less for the dogs.
5. Look at the firmers from two minutes out to 30 seconds before actual start on the local stateTote only.
6. If only one firmer back it to win for 1 unit.
7. If two firmers back both to win for 1 unit each..
8. If 3 or more firmers go on to the next race.
9. Take no less than $1.80
10. Test this method on paper & only bet if you are confident of a profit. Be patient & add a little to your bank each day. Watch it compound. Only 3 % of your bank in any one race.

The First Successful Silkie Terrior Tipster in the World.
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
This time I am going to tell you the inspiring story of a lady whose dream it was to win
the Melbourne Cup. Her name is Wendy Green and she was a schoolteacher at
Casuarina in the Northern Territory. Her parents bred a horse on their farm just south of
Perth. They sold the horse to Wendy & her brother for $13,000 as they wanted to race
him. The horse had some success in WA country cups and the siblings were offered
$200,000 for the horse and as her brother needed his half at the time wanted to sell the
conveyance overseas.. Wendy wanted to keep racing as she had a dream but not
much financial backing to follow it through. Somehow she got together the $100,000 to
buy the horse outright from her brother. She sent the horse to Bart Cummings to win
the Melbourne Cup! Bart got the horse 2 months before the Cup & 3 weeks out he was
a despised 250 to 1 outsider. Bart called Wendy `Wendy in Wonderland’ but a few
days before the Cup the horse came good and won a lead up race. It is history that
Rogan Josh the horse Wendy Green named after a Curry went on to win the 1999
Melbourne Cup. It took Wendy and her husband 2 months to get back home to Darwin
showing the Cup off at every pub on the road from Melbourne to Darwin !!

Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
OK last time I advised all my readers to only try & break even in your mind & in reality watch your profits grow !! Never be motivated by greed.
A good way to hold on to your profits is to set a target for the day & stop when it has been achieved. If you are having $10 bets stop when you have won 5 times this amount. Yes stop when you are $50+ in front. If you are having $100 bets stop when you are $500+ in front. You can then drop down to a much smaller bet or go onto plan B or just have some fun. If you want to just keep gamble gamble gamble for fun then the odds are stacked against you. With the target strategy....here is a good method for the trots and dogs.
1. If there is an odds on favourite or more than 10 runners... skip the race.
2. Only look at the first 3 favourites on the home tote & only runners paying less than $6.90.
3. Eliminate any runner thats not no. 12378 at the dogs or 12349,or10 at the trots.
4. Back the big firmer of the remainder but only if price offered is $3.50 plus. If you can... get a Betfair Account for better prices.

JANUARY 2012 ISSUE
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
For the New Year I am going to tell you a secret & I hope you will never forget it !! You
will never profit from your racing hobby unless you remember this every minute. It is the
opposite to what most think and here it is.
When making a racing investment `never ever be motivated by greed.’ Thats it !
Here’s why. 1/The bookmaker relies on the punter to balance his book by sending out
price lures so punters will be tempted by greed to place an investment on very risky
long shot chances.
2/The bookmaker relies on irrational thinking based on greed (or the easy way out) from
the punter who has had a few losses in a row.
3/Greed motivation takes your eye off the ball by thinking only of the final destination &
not considering how you are going to get there. It is nothing more than a wish.
The successful method is to use solid reasoning & back solid chances. Aim to break
even & have fun & you will be surprised at how your wins will accumulate.

The First Successful Silkie Terrior Tipster in the World. Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
My sister Suzie told me to back Fillies & Maresthe next start after winning first up from a spell.
At first I said `no way Suzie’ because first up winners frequently run below par the next 2 or 3 starts after a first up win (better class horses excepted). On further study however I found that she had something here.....yes indeed Fillies & Mares often do perform well second up after a win from a spell.
This is what you could try & see for yourself.
Go through the morning paper & mark down all the fillies & mares running second up after a first up win. Provided she has a reasonable barrier &weight.....then back her each way or if you like straight out for a win. Now here are some horses to follow from `The Fireman’ from Northampton WA....First Flight a middle distance runner from Perth. ...also Tally Ho from Brisbane and Sovereign Risk a special from Melbourne.... both sprinters. Ted the Trackman has noticed good trackwork by Pergola, Balavan, Inherited and Barbeau all in Melbourne. Hope you got the $25 paid out on Sophies Spirit on Melbourne Cup Day !

OCTOBER ISSUE
When I was a pup I saved all year & paid a very honest gentleman from Tasmania $100 for this Harness Horse system !! It was proven over thousands of races & I believe him. In those days I never had the patience to wait...because sometimes you did need to wait but it throws up good winners. Here it is for you & for free !!
Look at the ratings on TattsBet at the Harness Races. Back the runner between rating 65 & 100 that won its last start. If no runner qualifies take the one that ran second at its last start. Then if no qualifier go down to 4th then 5th. If you get 2 or more qualifiers back the one with the longest odds. Back for a win. This method was tested over thousands of races & made good profits.
Make sure you have a staking plan & a bank to start with & a reserve bank. Now hereare some horses to follow from `The Fireman’ from Northampton WA. King Lionheart & Chieftain both stayers. And Arizona Miss and Sophies Spirit both sprinters.
And here are Ted the Trackman's Tips for Melbourne only....all with winning gallops on the track:
The Counterfeiter, Tariana, Miss Chatter, Testacanna and Bullbars.

Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I gave you a method that helps to detirmine whether a runner is expected to
improve over & beyond the public expectation.
This time I am going to tell you about a neat lettle method for the greyhounds. With the
greyhounds about 70% of the pool goes on in the last 90 seconds of betting !! And greyhounds as a rule start 30-60 seconds later than the advertised starting time. This all means that meaningful price moves happen very late in the betting. Sure you will see big firmers before that but it only takes $10 or $20 to alter the price of a longshot 5 minutes before the race starts. Heres the method.....Note the numbers of the first 3 favourites exactly one minute before start time. Now just before the dogs start going into the boxes (or at the minus 30second mark) note any new runner that has moved into the top three. This is your meal ticket. Back him to win provided his odds are at least $3.50. I don’t bet below that as it only takes a little bump to spoil your runners chances. Not many bets with this but good winners at surprising odds. ..Syd the Punting Dog

MAY ISSUE
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I told you about the staking plans & your Punting Bank. If you dont have these two you are only contributing to the pool !! Now remember with some systems you may only have to win a very low percentage of winners....ie if your average priced winner is paying $8.00 you only have to win one race in 7 to make a profit !! Most punters give up on their system after a few losers. It is easy for a profitable system to have 20 losers in a row !! Winners don’t come at exactly the right spaced out intervals for you ......more likely you might get 3 winners ina row then a run of outs. Successful punters have a dedicated punting bank
that is big enough to withstand their longest possible losing run ...3 times over !!Another mistake us punters can make is to go out expecting to win big dollars from a small investment. Many get hooked into this way of betting after some early success but in the long run the law of averages will catch up with you. Always bet wisely within your system, staking plan & bank & you will always be on track overall.

MARCH -APRIL ISSUE
The First Successful Silkie Terrior Tipster in the World.
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
Last time I told you about the 5% staking plan and the idea of a Punting Bank. If you are a Punting Dog like me you need to have both to be a profitable punter. Its all about your psychology as a bettor & sensible money management. Its also about not panicking when you strike a losing run. ! Now let me tell you about your punting Bank which you set aside for your intelligent racing investments. First of all work out how much you have been able to afford to lose comfortably in the past. Now if you do what I say you will not be donating to the TAB (actually racing industry development & its employees & the government get your losses) anymore - you will be profiting..........
So say you have been donating $20 a week(x52weeks) to the racing industry....this could mean you can set aside a one thousand dollar bank for your now wise investments. Divide this into 3 so you now have 3 x $330 banks. Put 2 banks into an interest bearing account separate from anywhere else & put the other one into your TAB account. Now apply your staking plan & your system to that bank. .

February-March Issue
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog
This month I want to tell you about a Staking
Plan and the idea of a Punting Bank.
If you are a Punting Dog like me you need to
have both to be a profitable punter. Its all
about your psychology as a bettor & sensible
money management.
The Staking Plan I like (there are many of them) is called the
5% Plan. Its simple... all you do is bet 5% on whatever your bank is. First work out how much you can afford to lose over a period because all punting is a gamble & this includes the stock exchange.
So say you decide on a bank of $200.
Your first bet is $10 ie 5% of $200
if it loses your next bet is 5% of $190 or $9.50 round up to $10
if it loses your next bet is 5% of $180 or $9.00
if it loses your next bet is 5% of $171 or $8.55 round up to $9
if it wins at $5 your next bet* is 5% of $207 = $10.35 round down to $10
*you had $9 @ $5=$36 profit & you new bank is $171+ $36=$20
This Staking Plan has many advantages.
1/ You keep a record of all your betting & can constantly check your profit/loss.
2/As you face a losing run your bets reduce & as you hit a winning run your bets increase.
3/With the 5% Plan you could have 30 losing bets in a row & have $45 left & then you could have another 22 losing bets in a row at say your $2 Minimum bet.
Thats a lot of losers to have in a row but it could happen if you back longshots.
This keeps you in the game when the inevitable long losing run comes.
4/Many staking plans actually increase the value of the bet with each loser. This usually works OK but the the time will come when your losing run comes & your bet will be so high you may not have the resources or courage or stupidity to follow through.
5/ If you have a winning system at level stakes the 5% plan would be expected to increase your profits by 200-400% !!
Banks
Even with the 5% Plan is recommended you have one or two reserve banks in case your first bank does get wiped out. The need for this will be detirmined by the strike rate of your betting system.
Instead of the 5% plan you could have a 1% Plan or 2% Plan & no reserve banks would be required. You could also have a 10% Plan in which case you would require several reserve banks.
Working it Out
1/Best to record all your bets in a little diary with a little pocket calculator.
2/ If you are betting on a computer take advantage of the free spreadsheet provided
at http://horse-racing-systems.net/ this one automatically calculates everything for you.
I use a different spreadsheet (& bank) for each different system I use....one system for the gallops, one for the dogs & one for the trots.
These people also have a laying system for English Racing which has good reports & a lot of fun.

January-February 2011 Issue
Hi I'm Syd the Punting Dog.
This time I am going to give you a nice method to make a tidy profit every day.
The racecallers say you the punter is getting good value when there are a lot of runners & every runner is at longer odds. Nothing could be further from the truth !! When the favourite is paying $4.00 or more this really means no one has a clue what is really going to win.....$4.00 mathematically means this runner has only a 25% chance of winning. ...so there is little confidence in this favourite.....but it still attracts the favourite backers. This is how we get false favourites in big fields. Forget the big fields ....too much uncertainty ....it would be easy to come come without a winner betting in these races. Here is my `Syds Small Fields Winners Method’
First go to your race fields & mark out all the races with only 10 runners or less & put them in time order for the day. Forget Maidens & Class1 races. Mark down the runners that won or ran second at one of its last 2 runs except if that run was 1st up from a spell. Also mark the runners that are 2nd or 3rd up from a spell as long as your race is 1400m or less. Back the runner that is in the 1st 3 of the betting & firms on its home tote from the 10 minute mark to 1 minute before the start. Back for a win. If 2 selections back the longest price. ..Syd the Punting Dog
